A park near a war veterans' hospital in Omsk will be named after Kemel Tokayev, the father of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The initiative to name the park after Kemel Tokayev was put forward by the Regional Kazakh National-Cultural Autonomy. The city council supported the proposal.

According to an official statement, the choice of location has symbolic significance. In 1945, Sergeant Kemel Tokayev, who was severely wounded, was evacuated to an Omsk hospital. Local doctors used modern treatment methods to save his leg from amputation. After the war, he became one of the founders of the detective genre in Kazakh literature. Today, a memorial plaque dedicated to the writer is installed on the hospital building.

Additionally, the Omsk City Council decided to name a central land plot "Friendship Coast" (Dostyk Zhagalauy), dedicated to the friendship between Kazakhstan and Russia.
