In Ust-Kamenogorsk, a National Guard officer detained a man suspected of snatching a woman's gold items, the National Guard press service reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The incident occurred when Bakhtiyar Omirzak, a serviceman of the 3477 military unit of the National Guard, was returning home from duty.
"Major Omirzak sees a fleeing man in a residential courtyard. A woman running after him asks the officer to help detain the person who stole her gold items," the statement said.
He caught up with the suspect on the territory of a school stadium. He then called police officers to the scene and handed the detained man over to them.
"I realized that help was needed and, without remaining indifferent, immediately took action. My only goal was not to let the fugitive escape and to hand him over to the guards," said Bakhtiyar Omirzak.
According to the National Guard, the officer's action demonstrates that he showed civic responsibility and support for people in need of help even outside of duty hours.
