In the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Great Patriotic War veteran Makar Kharin celebrated his 100th birthday. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The regional head Nurymbet Saktaganov also came to congratulate the veteran. Makar Rodionovich told him about his front-line journey.
Makar Kharin was born on August 10, 1926, in the village of Maralikha, Charyshsky district, Altai Krai. In 1943, he was drafted into the Soviet Army and sent to the front. He served as a mortar man in the 153rd Guards Rifle Regiment of the 52nd Guards Rifle Division.
He participated in battles on the Leningrad and Baltic fronts. In 1944, he was seriously wounded and discharged from the army.
For his bravery and fortitude, Makar Rodionovich was awarded the Order of Glory III degree, the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, and the medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945."
After the war, he worked in his native village. In 1961, he moved to Ust-Kamenogorsk. He worked at a house-building plant and in the regional gas industry.
Today, a tent was set up near the house of the veteran, who turned 100, and a concert program was organized. Military personnel marched solemnly in front of Makar Rodionovich.
