In Ust-Kamenogorsk, a fraudulent scheme involving promises to help obtain housing under a state program was exposed. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to Polisia.kz, a 30-year-old man offered citizens apartments at favorable prices and promised to handle the paperwork. He operated from November 2024 to April 2026.
The fraudster persuaded people to give him cash and transfer money to bank accounts. After receiving the money, he demanded additional payments for housing registration, document processing, and other expenses.
To convince victims of the deal's authenticity, the man rented an apartment and presented it as their future home. People, hoping to receive the keys soon, continued to pay.
However, they never received the promised housing or documents. As a result of the fraudster's actions, 25 residents of the region suffered. The total damage exceeds 186 million tenge.
The suspect was detained and brought to the police. He is currently in a temporary detention facility and has confessed to his guilt during interrogation.
