Construction of a new power unit worth 140 billion tenge has started at Ust-Kamenogorsk CHP. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The launch of works was given during a solemn ceremony of laying a time capsule. The event was attended by Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov, Akim of East Kazakhstan region Nurymbet Saktaganov, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhstan Utility Systems LLP Dinmukhamet Idrisov, as well as representatives of state bodies, heads of companies and project partners.
Significance of the project
The project to expand the station will increase thermal capacity by 130 Gcal/h and electrical capacity by 100 MW by 2030, ensuring reliable energy supply to the growing region.
Ust-Kamenogorsk CHP provides 85% of the city's needs for centralized heat supply. At the same time, the city continues to develop: new residential areas and social facilities are being built, industrial production is expanding. This increases the need for thermal and electrical energy.
According to the heat supply organization, the deficit of thermal capacity is 287.8 Gcal/h. The implementation of the project will reduce the existing deficit, create a reserve for further housing construction, development of social infrastructure and industrial growth.
Characteristics of the new power unit
The new power unit will include boiler unit No. 16 with a capacity of 400 tons of steam per hour and turbine No. 13 with an electrical capacity of 100 MW.
One of the key stages of preparation was the signing of an investment agreement between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Ust-Kamenogorsk CHP, thanks to which the project received the status of national significance.
"The new power unit will provide heat and electricity to the city's residents. This will create the necessary power reserve for the further development of Ust-Kamenogorsk. The project will also create new jobs. Specialists will be able to work with modern equipment and constantly develop their skills. The energy sector needs new capacities and professional personnel who can work on them," said Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
Modern technologies and environmental solutions
The construction of the new power unit provides for the use of modern technological solutions and high-efficiency equipment that meet the requirements of industrial and environmental safety of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which will improve the efficiency of heat and electricity production and reduce the impact on the environment.
Akim of East Kazakhstan region Nurymbet Saktaganov emphasized the strategic importance of the project for the region.
"The Head of State has repeatedly stressed that the modernization of energy and utility infrastructure, improving its reliability and quality of services for the population are the most important tasks for the country. The growth of Ust-Kamenogorsk and industry in the region increase the need for energy, so reliable energy infrastructure is the basis of our further development. The implementation of such a project will increase the capacity of the station and improve the reliability of heat supply to the regional center," noted Nurymbet Saktaganov.
State, business and international partners
The project is implemented by Ust-Kamenogorsk CHP, which is part of the Kazakhstan Utility Systems Group of Companies.
The financing of the project is provided with the participation of international and financial institutions. Partners are the Eurasian Development Bank and JSC Halyk Bank of Kazakhstan.
"Thanks to the implementation of the project, about 300 residential buildings and social facilities will be provided with heat, and about 50 new jobs will appear. The joint work of the state and business creates conditions for the further development of the region, increasing its investment attractiveness and, most importantly, improving the quality of life of citizens," said Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kazakhstan Utility Systems LLP Dinmukhamet Idrisov.
The Kazakhstan Utility Systems Group of Companies consistently invests in the renewal of generating capacities and network infrastructure, the introduction of modern technologies and the implementation of new projects. These measures ensure sustainable energy supply and create conditions for the long-term development of regions.
