In Ust-Kamenogorsk, criminal police officers saved nearly 3 million tenge of a local resident from scammers. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The scammers introduced themselves to the woman as employees of a intercom service and put pressure on her. "They told the woman that the intercom needed to be replaced and put pressure on her. As a result, the city resident provided her personal data," the police statement says.
Employees of the Ulba police department Zhanarbek Bekenbayev and Dulat Mazhitov noticed the situation in time and stopped the scammers' actions.
Police warned citizens to be cautious. "If a stranger asks by phone for your bank card number, password or an SMS code, do not provide any information. Also, do not transfer money at the request of strangers. If you receive a suspicious call, immediately stop the conversation and contact the bank or police yourself using the official number," law enforcement officials say.
