Harvesting campaign has started in several regions of Kazakhstan. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, this year's harvesting work began ahead of schedule. In the South Kazakhstan region, the first batches of wheat and barley have been collected, with an average yield of 25 centners per hectare. In the Zhambyl region, harvesting has also begun, and farmers, despite the drought, expect a good harvest.
According to Minister Yerbol Karashokeyev, this year the area under crops is 15.2 million hectares, of which 12.5 million hectares are sown with grain crops. "We plan to harvest more than 18 million tons of grain this year," the minister said.
In the Akmola region, the harvesting campaign is expected to start in a week. Preparatory work is also underway in the North Kazakhstan region. The Ministry of Agriculture is taking all measures to ensure timely delivery of necessary machinery and fuel and lubricants to the regions.
This year, the harvesting campaign is taking place under special conditions, as spring drought and summer heat have affected the crop. However, the ministry noted that it is taking all necessary measures to prevent a decrease in yield.
The harvesting campaign is expected to last until the end of September.
