At least eight people, including four children, were shot and injured during the US Independence Day holiday in New York City's Coney Island neighborhood. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing The Guardian.
The incident took place late Saturday evening at about 10:37 pm local time on West 31st Street in the Brooklyn neighborhood, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Officers responded to reports of a shooting.
Those injured included two men, two women, and four children aged 14, 12, 7, and 6. All victims were transported to hospitals. Seven were in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman was in critical condition.
Police recovered a firearm at the scene but have not made any arrests. The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
Saturday marked the 250th anniversary of the independence of the United States.
