In Shymkent, a man who brutally killed Nuray Serikbay has been sentenced to life imprisonment. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

The criminal case was considered in court under Article 125-1, Part 1 (forced marriage), Article 115-1 (stalking — establishing contact against a person's will, harassment), and paragraph 5) of Part 2 of Article 99 (murder with extreme cruelty) of the Criminal Code.

Circumstances of the case

As established by the court, on October 4, 2025, the convicted person took Nuray Serikbay from Almaty to Shymkent in his car. Threatening the victim with the phrase "if you resist or do anything else, we will have a car accident," he brought her to his home in Shymkent on October 5, 2025, took her mobile phone despite her resistance, forced her into the house against her will, and coerced her into marriage.

However, on the same day, the victim's brother and sister, having learned that she had not come voluntarily, took her away at her request.

The crime

On January 11, 2026, in Shymkent, the convicted person A. offered the victim to go for a walk in the park. The victim S. refused. Angered by this response, A. began striking the victim with a tourist knife he had prepared in advance. Noticing a person approaching the scene, he stopped his actions and ran away 5-6 meters.

However, he returned and, in front of a witness, struck the victim multiple times as she lay on the ground suffering from severe injuries. In total, A. inflicted 35 blows on the victim, causing her death with extreme cruelty.

Court verdict

The guilt of the convicted person is confirmed by his initial confession, witness testimony, physical evidence, and forensic expert conclusions. The prosecutor requested a final sentence of life imprisonment. The victim's side agreed with the prosecutor's position.

The convicted person asked to reclassify his actions under Part 1 of Article 99 of the Criminal Code and impose a minimum sentence, and to acquit him under Part 1 of Article 125-1 and Article 115-1. No circumstances mitigating or aggravating criminal liability and punishment were established.

The court found A. guilty under paragraph 5) of Part 2 of Article 99, Part 1 of Article 125-1, and Article 115-1 of the Criminal Code and sentenced him to life imprisonment for the totality of crimes. The victim's claim was partially satisfied: 25 million tenge was recovered from the convicted person as moral damages and 5 million tenge for legal services.
