Christopher Nolan's new film 'The Odyssey' has received its first reviews ahead of the world premiere. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film scored 98% positive reviews. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Most reviewers called 'The Odyssey' a grand and spectacular film. Many consider it one of Nolan's best works, and some already call it the main film of 2026.

Critics especially praised the cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema, the music by Ludwig Göransson, and the acting. The most praised were Damon, Hathaway, and Holland.

According to journalists, Nolan managed to show Homer's classic story in a new way while preserving its main ideas. Scenes with the Trojan Horse, the Cyclops Polyphemus, and the sorceress Circe are particularly praised.

However, not everyone was unconditionally pleased. Some critics believe the story sometimes loses pace, and the characters are not always easy to empathize with. Also, some reviewers noted the modern speech of the characters, which may seem unusual for an ancient Greek epic.

On Metacritic, the film scored 88 out of 100 based on initial reviews.

The adaptation of Homer's poem tells the story of King Odysseus, who tries to return home after the Trojan War. Matt Damon plays the lead role. The film also stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, and others.

The world premiere of 'The Odyssey' will take place on July 17. Viewers in Kazakhstan will have to wait another week — the film will be shown in the country's cinemas starting July 23.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that rapper Travis Scott unexpectedly appeared in the new trailer for Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey'. The first footage of the musician was seen by viewers during the broadcast of an NFL playoff game (American football) on Fox.
