Netflix has surprised fans of 'Stranger Things' by releasing the first season in a VHS-styled version. Now the cult show can be watched as if it were just rented from a 1980s video store. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The new version features all the characteristic traits of old videotapes: a 4:3 aspect ratio, grainy image, slight blur, and analog video effect. Additionally, the frame is cropped using pan-and-scan technology to make the series look like it would on old CRT televisions.

According to the series creators, the Duffer Brothers, this is exactly how 'Stranger Things' might have looked if the cassette were on the shelf of the Family Video rental store in the fictional town of Hawkins. Even Netflix's iconic intro was styled to match the VHS era, while preserving the original audio track.

If the experiment appeals to viewers, the Duffer Brothers do not rule out releasing the remaining seasons in the same format.

Earlier, Kursiv LifeStyle reported that the creators of 'Stranger Things' promise to reveal Eleven's fate 20 years later.
