Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran tried to assassinate one of his sons. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Netanyahu said this in a phone interview with Israeli Channel 14, commenting on reports that one of Israel's security agencies refused to provide protection to his political rival ahead of upcoming elections.
"Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill one of my sons," the Israeli premier said.
According to him, enhanced security for politicians cannot be considered excessive in this context.
As Reuters notes, it could be one of Netanyahu's two sons — Yair or Avner. The premier's eldest son Yair lives in Miami.
Iran's mission to the UN in New York has not yet commented on Netanyahu's accusations.
Israeli media earlier reported that Shin Bet chief David Zini refused to provide security for Gadi Eisenkot, one of Netanyahu's election rivals, telling election authorities there was no threat to his life.
Eisenkot's party is currently considered one of the favorites in the upcoming elections, but the final composition of the government in Israel is usually determined by coalition negotiations.
Parliamentary elections in Israel are scheduled for October 27.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu once again agreed to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The talks took place in Washington and lasted about 90 minutes. The White House called the meeting "positive and productive."
