Two helicopters collided in the Everest region of Nepal on the morning of November 3, killing an Indian tourist. Three other people, including both pilots, were injured. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to Nepal police, one helicopter belonged to Fishtail Air and was carrying two tourists — citizens of India and New Zealand. The second, operated by Air Dynasty, was delivering cargo. Both aircraft were approaching to land at the same time when the collision occurred.
As a result of the crash, the Indian tourist died. The passenger from New Zealand and the pilots of both helicopters were injured. They were taken to hospitals.
The cause of the accident is being investigated. According to the head of Nepal's Civil Aviation Authority, Mukesh Dangal, dispatchers at Lukla airport do not control flights in the area of this site. Pilots must agree among themselves who lands and when.
"Preliminary reports indicate communication problems between the pilots," The Kathmandu Post quoted Dangal as saying.
In Nepal's mountainous regions, helicopters transport people and cargo and also assist rescuers. Earlier, Kursiv reported that during October floods in the central part of the country, about 50 people were evacuated by air.
