NATO has failed to launch supplies of American weapons to Ukraine under the PURL scheme. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
RIA Novosti, citing a report submitted to the US Congress, reported that 21 member countries of the alliance allocated $4.15 billion to the program as of the end of March. The US had not assumed any financial commitments at that time: funds were received by the treasury but were not fulfilled in the form of a contract for arms supplies.
Additionally, Washington did not use its quota of $4.96 billion, which would have allowed arms to be supplied to Kyiv from Pentagon warehouses. According to the document, the US authorities decided not to spend these funds fully to ensure their own combat readiness.
Ultimately, the US was unable to expedite deliveries using its available stocks. The PURL support mechanism was launched last summer. This was caused by Donald Trump's refusal to continue free arms supplies to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Now the US sells weapons to NATO countries, which in turn send them to Ukraine. Ukraine must identify its critical needs and coordinate aid packages with the North Atlantic Alliance.
