In Thailand, a player was struck by lightning during a football match and died. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The tragedy occurred during a semi-final match of the regional Golok FA Cup tournament at Santiphap Stadium in Sungai Kolok. 24-year-old footballer Sophian Awae collapsed on the field after being struck by lightning and later died.
According to police, nine other people were injured as a result of the incident. Law enforcement agencies are investigating the circumstances.
At the time of the lightning strike, there was heavy rain at the stadium, and weather conditions were unfavorable.
