MUNICH (AP) — Jamal Musiala is still working toward a comeback after a change to his medication for a neurological issue, Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany said Thursday. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
Musiala hasn't played since collapsing in successive preparation games this month and will not take part in Friday's Bundesliga opener against Stuttgart. But he was to be a full participant in team training on Thursday, Kompany said.
"That means he's getting used to the increase in medication, that's he's reacting well to it," Kompany said.
"He will be in the squad again sometime and he'll play normally again, but of course we'll take that decision hand in hand with all the (medical) experts and so on," he added. "But he's doing well."
The 23-year-old Musiala first collapsed in a friendly against RB Leipzig on Aug. 15, and then again on Aug. 18 in a game against Heidenheim. In both cases, he was helped off the field.
Kompany did not elaborate on Musiala's condition but confirmed he had his medication changed and is now adapting to the new regimen.
"He feels good, but we are not rushing," Kompany said. "We want to make sure he fully recovers."
Musiala is a key player for Bayern, having been a regular starter this season and scoring several goals. His absence could affect the team, but Kompany said he relies on other players.
"We have a strong squad, every player is ready to contribute," he said.
Bayern will aim for a win against Stuttgart on Friday. The team starts the season as defending champions and will try to retain the title.
The timeline for Musiala's return is still unclear, but Kompany expressed hope he will play again soon.
"He is on the right track," he said. "We hope to see him back on the pitch."
