Kazakhstanis with hearing impairment will be able to receive hearing aids for medical reasons, even if they do not have a disability. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The new mechanism was developed by the Ministry of Health. The department promises that after all organizational procedures are completed, thousands of patients across the country will be able to use this assistance.
Until now, hearing aids were provided free of charge only to certain categories of people with disabilities who have severe hearing impairments. Now, all patients who are prescribed hearing prosthetics by an audiologist will receive the right to receive them.
"Early start of hearing rehabilitation helps preserve quality of life, improve opportunities for learning, communication and social adaptation," noted Zhanar Saduova, acting director of the Department of Maternal and Child Health Protection of the Ministry of Health.
To receive a hearing aid, the patient must undergo an examination by an audiologist. The doctor will assess the degree of hearing loss, select the appropriate model and issue a medical report.
The new system provides not only the issuance of a hearing aid. It will also include individual selection and adjustment of the device, manufacturing of an ear mold, patient training, as well as warranty and post-warranty service.
According to the Ministry of Health, a list of modern hearing aid models of various power levels has already been formed, designed for patients with varying degrees of hearing loss.
Earlier, Kursiv reported on a new study by Swiss scientists. They found that the use of hearing aids may be associated with a reduced risk of dementia in people who simultaneously suffer from epilepsy and hearing loss.
