Moroccan migrants have attacked the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa. Thousands are swimming to Ceuta, plunging the city into a humanitarian and social crisis. Local authorities have already requested the army to help contain the situation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing BBC News.
The Italian government is considering temporarily reinstating border controls at the border with Spain due to the migration crisis in the autonomous city of Ceuta in North Africa, the newspaper Corriere della Sera reported, citing sources in the office of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
Earlier, the EFE news agency reported that between 1,500 and 2,000 migrants have arrived in Ceuta over the past ten days, exceeding the capacity of local services to receive and accommodate them.
According to the latest data, Spain is urgently sending troops to Ceuta to strengthen border control and maintain public order. At the same time, Morocco and Spain have concluded an emergency agreement to deport all illegally entered individuals, including minors.
In scale, the current situation resembles the border crisis of May 2021, when more than 8,000 to 10,000 people broke into Ceuta in a couple of days.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that the Center for Migration Research and Analysis at the independent institute RFBerlin released figures on the number of migrants in the European Union. According to their data, in 2025 this number reached 64.2 million people.
