Kazakhstan is holding its first elections of Kurultai deputies following the adoption of the new Constitution. International observers are monitoring the voting process. Anghelika Caraman, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Moldova, visited polling station No. 228 and shared her impressions of the organization of the electoral process. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Anghelika Caraman noted the special significance of the current elections, as they take place under a new electoral system and are one of the stages in implementing constitutional reform.
"First of all, I think these elections should be viewed in the special context in which they are held. These are the first elections to the Kurultai organized under the new system, under the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Therefore, this is an important stage in the implementation of constitutional reform," she said.
According to the international observer, voting at the visited polling stations is organized at a good level. Voters are informed about the procedure, and members of precinct commissions know their duties and clearly distribute work. Caraman emphasized that international observers were able to get answers to their questions at all visited polling stations.
"The quality of the entire process depends on the quality of training of electoral officials. This is very important because trust in the process lies precisely in this," noted the Chairperson of the CEC of Moldova.
She also cited the creation of necessary conditions for persons with disabilities as another positive practice.
"At all polling stations we visited, we see conditions for persons with disabilities. There is the possibility of audio listening, and stencils are provided. This meets international standards," emphasized the Chairperson of the CEC of Moldova.
In conclusion, Anghelika Caraman wished her Kazakh colleagues to continue their work on the professional training of members of election commissions.
"I wish colleagues from the Central Election Commission to continue the course towards professionalization. It is clear how much effort has been invested in training electoral officials. We wish that after the elections, colleagues will appreciate the work done and continue the course towards improving the organization of electoral procedures. We are also interested in adopting good practices," concluded Anghelika Caraman.
Earlier, Kursiv reported that as of 18:00, voter turnout had reached 72.15%. According to the CEC, a total of 12,605,788 voters were included in the lists. By 18:00, 9,095,298 people had participated in voting.
