Uzbekistan is preparing amendments to toughen punishment for sexual violence against children. This was reported on Telegram by Saida Mirziyoyeva, the eldest daughter of the country's president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the head of his administration. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
In her view, pedophiles should be sentenced to death. At the same time, she noted that the current law does not provide for this.
"We are preparing proposals to amend the legislation in order to maximally toughen liability for such crimes," Mirziyoyeva wrote.
The death penalty was abolished in Uzbekistan in 2008. Its prohibition is now enshrined in the Constitution.
The statement was prompted by a crime at a kindergarten in the Namangan region. On September 22, a 52-year-old supply manager was detained there on suspicion of raping a child. The girl and her mother are receiving psychological assistance. The kindergarten teacher and management were dismissed for improper performance of their duties.
Mirziyoyeva said that punishment should also be borne by those who showed negligence and failed to protect the child.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov proposed introducing the death penalty.
