The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan has officially refuted information that had previously appeared online and caused a scandal. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

The issue concerns complaints about cruel treatment of patients at the psychiatric hospital in Aktas village, Almaty region.

Recall that the reason for the inspection was publications in the media and social networks, where former patients spoke about numerous alleged violations in the institution, including torture and cruelty by staff.

For example, one of the heroes of the publication claimed that people could be tied to beds and forced to wash wards, corridors, and toilets. Other stories allegedly told by former patients were also cited.

After public outcry, Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova ordered an inspection of the hospital. The situation at the medical facility was studied by the Department of the Committee for Medical and Pharmaceutical Control of the Ministry of Health for the Almaty region.

"According to the inspection report No. 127 dated August 7, 2026, information about the use of physical restraints, medications as a measure of influence, and other actions that degrade the dignity of patients was not confirmed. Thus, the statements in the publication do not correspond to the actual circumstances established during the official inspection," the official statement of the Ministry of Health says.

The department clarified that some authors of the stories refer to personal memories from 18 years ago, so it is not possible to investigate the alleged incidents of 2008-2010.

The Republican Psychiatric Hospital in Aktas is the only institution of its kind in Kazakhstan. It houses patients who have been assigned compulsory medical measures by court.

According to the Ministry of Health, more than 80% of the institution's patients have committed grave and especially grave crimes against the person.

The department stated that it will continue to monitor the quality of medical care and respect for patients' rights.
