Energy Minister Yerlan Akkenzhenov has named the regions where new coal power plants will be built. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan has a national project to develop coal generation by 2030. Within its framework, a plan for the development of the coal industry will also be developed.
According to the minister, new coal energy sources are planned to be built in the cities of Ekibastuz, Kurchatov, Zhezkazgan, Kokshetau, Semey and Oskemen. "These projects are necessary to cover the growing demand for electricity and increase the reliability of the Unified Electric Power System," Akkenzhenov said at the coal industry forum.
The minister noted that coal generation must be implemented using dust and gas purification systems.
