German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said he is trying to convince US President Donald Trump to continue supporting Europe and Ukraine. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

Merz plans to meet Trump in person before the end of the year to discuss the situation in Ukraine. According to him, Europe's position on supporting Ukraine remains unchanged.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Merz said he is trying to explain to Trump that a stable Europe and the European Union are also a beneficial partner for the United States. The German chancellor noted readiness to continue cooperation with the US within NATO and other international organizations.

In his opinion, Washington and Europe must act together to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, in March, Politico reported that Merz met with Trump and sought US support. According to the publication, the German chancellor avoided open public debate with Trump and sought to persuade him of his position in private meetings.

In April, Donald Trump criticized Merz's work, stating that under his leadership Germany has faced many problems, including those related to the situation in Ukraine.
