A 16-year-old boy has been charged with murder after a 15-year-old was allegedly stabbed and left to die outside a hospital in Melbourne. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing The Guardian.
Darweish Mohamed, 15, was found with critical wounds outside the Craigieburn community hospital at about 7:50pm on Wednesday. A staff member rushed to his aid and delivered CPR, but he died at the scene.
On Friday, police confirmed they had charged two people following arrests. A 16-year-old boy from Victoria's Goulburn valley region was charged with murder and remanded in custody to appear in a children's court. A 20-year-old man from Beveridge was charged with criminal damage by fire and bailed to appear at the Broadmeadows magistrates court on 1 December.
Police said they were also investigating if a burnt-out car found at Oaklands Junction is linked to the stabbing.
A friend of the dead boy's family, Mohamed Bakhit, launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for funeral expenses. "It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved brother, Darweish," the fundraiser page reads. The campaign had raised more than $37,000 towards a goal of $60,000 by Friday morning. It asks those unable to donate to keep Darweish and his family in their du'as.
The education department confirmed it would provide support to affected school communities. "The death of any young person is a tragedy," a spokesperson said.
On Friday, police also announced further arrests. A 15-year-old girl from Fawkner was charged with affray and theft of a motor vehicle and bailed. A 15-year-old Craigieburn boy was being interviewed after his arrest on Friday morning.
