A school backpack, together with textbooks and supplies, should not weigh more than 10% of a child's body weight, the Ministry of Health reported. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

For example, if a student weighs 30 kg, the fully packed backpack should be no heavier than 3 kg.

Separate weight standards are set for the daily set of textbooks and notebooks, excluding the backpack itself.

The empty backpack itself, according to experts, should weigh no more than 1 kg.

"Experts recommend choosing a backpack together with the child. Before buying, it is advisable to try it on and make sure it matches the student's height and fits comfortably on the back," the Ministry of Health said.

When choosing, they also advise paying attention to the backpack's design. It should have a firm back, wide soft straps with adjustable length, reflective elements, and be made of durable, water-resistant material.

"It is also important to consider the backpack's own weight. The lighter it is, the less additional strain on the child. Experts recommend that the weight of an empty backpack not exceed one kilogram. The backpack should not be too large or hang significantly below the waist," the ministry explained.

Parents are advised to regularly check the contents of the backpack and remove toys, extra books, notebooks, and other items that will not be needed in class.

The child should wear the backpack on both shoulders so that the load is distributed evenly. If the school has lockers or other storage spaces, experts advise leaving some textbooks and supplies there.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that by September 1, more than 8,500 schoolchildren in Astana will receive backpacks and school supplies for free as part of the "Road to School" campaign. The assistance is intended for children from low-income and large families, orphans, and those left without parental care.

In addition, through the "Vseobuch" fund, financial assistance is provided for the purchase of school uniforms, shoes, and stationery. More than 5,000 applications have already been submitted to capital schools to receive it.
