The title fight of undefeated Kazakhstani boxer Meiirim Nursultanov against WBC interim middleweight champion Jesus Ramos will not take place on September 20. The reason was a sharp deterioration in the American's health on the eve of the bout. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
Ramos hospitalized
According to BoxingScene, Ramos suffered from food poisoning. On Thursday evening the boxer felt unwell and was taken to one of the hospitals in San Diego. He was discharged on Friday morning, but the fight with Nursultanov was removed from the card right before the weigh-in procedure.
Premier Boxing Champions confirmed that the bout will be rescheduled to another date. The new date of the meeting has not yet been announced.
Nursultanov was set for his first fight in almost three years
Nursultanov was supposed to have his first fight in almost three years. The Kazakhstani last entered the ring in November 2023, when he defeated Chilean Julio Alamos by unanimous decision. In the professional ring, the 33-year-old boxer remains undefeated – 20 wins, 11 of them by knockout.
The fight with Ramos was supposed to be Nursultanov's first opportunity to win a world title. The WBC interim middleweight belt held by the American was on the line. The WBC had also previously confirmed that the winner of this meeting was to receive the right to fight the organization's full champion, Carlos Adames.
Ramos's record ahead of the postponed fight
Ramos approaches the postponed fight with a record of 24 wins and one loss, with 19 of his fights ending early. The American won the WBC interim belt in December 2025, defeating Shane Mosley Jr. by unanimous decision.
Thus, Nursultanov's first chance to fight for a world title has been postponed indefinitely. Further information about the new date of the fight will be provided once it is announced.
