Kazakh Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov commented on the possibility of leniency for drivers caught driving drunk under the administrative amnesty. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Kazakhstan is holding an administrative amnesty for the first time. As part of it, a proposal was made to reduce the period of license deprivation for drunk drivers.
The minister expressed his opinion on the matter: "Reducing the terms is equivalent to supporting drunk driving. Granting leniency means giving freedom to such 'heroes.' Our task is to eliminate such facts and form an uncompromising and strict stance in the public consciousness," Sadenov said in an interview published on the Polisia.kz portal.
According to the minister, sober driving should become a fundamental principle of driving culture. "For example, in China, if a person dies in such accidents, the death penalty is even provided. And in the USA, for drunk driving, one can be deprived of a license for life," Sadenov said.
