In Borankul village of Beineu district in the Mangistau region, police found the carcass of an animal resembling a saiga in the trunk of a Toyota Land Cruiser SUV. Law enforcement opened a criminal case over the incident. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
How the check was carried out
Police received information about the possible illegal transport of a rare animal on September 18 during operational and preventive measures. As part of the investigation, they inspected the vehicle and found the carcass.
The case opened
Police launched a pre-trial investigation under Article 339 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan (illegal handling of rare and endangered species of animals or plants). The investigation is currently carrying out the necessary measures and establishing all the circumstances of the incident.
Police reminder
The Police Department of the Mangistau region recalled that illegal hunting, purchase, storage and transport of rare and endangered animal species carries liability under the law.
