Three Iranian citizens who violated the maritime border have been convicted in the Mangystau Region. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to Sputnik Kazakhstan, citing the official website of the regional prosecutor's office, in July of this year the Iranians illegally crossed Kazakhstan's border across the Caspian Sea while fishing.

They were detained by border guards. Subsequently, a case was opened under Article 392, Part 1-1 of the Criminal Code (intentional illegal crossing of the state border outside checkpoints by a group of persons by prior conspiracy).

"By the verdict of the Karakiya District Court, three citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran were found guilty and sentenced to one year of imprisonment with expulsion from the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan," the official statement says.

The court verdict has not entered into legal force.
