Four people in the Mangystau region have been poisoned by fish and are breathing with the help of artificial lung ventilation. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
The region's freelance chief epidemiologist, Maral Kadyr, said three adults and one child were hospitalized with signs of botulism.
Three adult residents of the Munaily district were admitted to the regional multidisciplinary hospital. One of the patients is a child aged 9 years and 10 months. They were admitted to the infectious diseases department of the regional multidisciplinary children's hospital.
"There is a suspicion that the patients were poisoned by fish. The fish had been stored in the refrigerator for a long time. It was consumed on September 17 from 20:00 to 21:00 during a family event. The first signs of the disease appeared on the evening of September 18. The patients sought medical help on September 19," the epidemiologist said.
The patients experienced nausea and vomiting. They also had weakness, dizziness, impaired vision, as well as impaired consciousness.
"All patients have been connected to artificial lung ventilation. They are receiving detoxification and symptomatic therapy. The patients were also administered a special antibotulinum serum," Maral Kadyr said.
Earlier, it was reported that children were poisoned at a health camp in the Akmola region.
