In Mangystau region, 18 people have sought medical help after being bitten by black widow spiders since the start of the year. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Lada.kz.

Residents of Aktau are posting videos on social media showing venomous spiders near children's playgrounds. Citizens are asking authorities to take measures, as black widow spiders have become more common in urban areas.

On June 15, a special meeting was held at the Mangystau region akimat chaired by Deputy Akim Abbat Urisbayev. It was attended by heads of medical organizations, representatives of the sanitary and epidemiological control department, and relevant specialists.

According to specialists, due to heavy rainfall this year, black widow spiders appeared earlier than usual, and their numbers have increased significantly.

Additionally, several medical organizations in the region have an insufficient supply of specific antivenom against black widow spider venom. As a result, victims have to be transported to medical facilities in the regional center.

Following the meeting, the akimat instructed to ensure timely medical assistance to victims and strengthen prevention of black widow spider bites. In particular, it is necessary to stockpile antivenom in all cities and districts of the region, enhance educational work among the population, organize cleaning of yards and household areas, and carry out disinsection measures.

Special attention was paid to safety in kindergartens, summer camps, and other children's institutions. Specialists also reminded about the need to take precautions when cleaning dry grass and vegetation.

Zhanar Doszhanova, director of the Mangystau Regional Children's Hospital, reported that over the past ten days, two children with signs of black widow spider bites were admitted to the hospital.

"The children experienced severe pain at the bite site, pain in various parts of the body, nausea, vomiting, fever, and marked anxiety. Therefore, parents need to pay special attention to children's safety on playgrounds and in recreational areas. Currently, the children are receiving necessary treatment, and their condition has stabilized," Doszhanova noted.

Following the meeting, Urisbayev instructed responsible agencies to strengthen preventive measures against black widow spiders, replenish stocks of necessary drugs, and systematically conduct information and educational work among the population.

Earlier, Kursiv reported that residents of Atyrau were complaining on social media about an unprecedented invasion of mosquitoes and midges.
