In Mangystau region, police came to the aid of a Hungarian cyclist traveler who got stuck at the 55th kilometer of the Aktau-Kalamkas highway. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the regional police department, the foreigner was on a major international cycling trip. He started his route in Hungary, then traveled through Kyrgyzstan and arrived in Kazakhstan, from where he planned to move further towards China. However, after leaving Aktau, the man's bicycle broke down, and he could not continue on his own.
"Police noticed the traveler on the highway and stopped to find out what happened. Convinced that he needed help, they stopped a passing GAZelle van and arranged transportation for the cyclist along with his bicycle to Aktau," the department said.
The foreigner thanked the police for their attention, help, and responsiveness.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote about how a traveler from Morocco's bicycle broke down in East Kazakhstan region. And a Chinese tourist "Nancy from Barcelona" twice found herself in trouble on the highway in Kostanay region. The first time, police rescued the 57-year-old traveler in her motorhome at night on icy roads; the second time, medics warmed her up and provided overnight accommodation.
Meanwhile, Kazakhstan is proposing new rules that would require tourists and guides to inform rescuers about their plans and travel routes across the country.
