Islam Makhachev defeated Ian Machado Garry in the main event of UFC 330 in Philadelphia and successfully defended his UFC welterweight title (77 kg) for the first time. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The judges awarded the victory to Makhachev with scores of 49:46, 49:46, and 48:47. His professional record now stands at 29 wins and one loss, while Garry suffered his second career defeat – 17-2.
The win over Garry was Makhachev's 17th consecutive victory in the UFC. The Russian surpassed the achievement of Brazilian Anderson Silva, who won 16 fights in a row, and now holds the record for the longest winning streak in the promotion's history.
Additionally, Makhachev joined the list of fighters who have successfully defended UFC titles in two weight classes. Previously, he defended the lightweight belt (70 kg) four times before vacating it and moving up to welterweight.
For the 28-year-old Garry, this defeat was only the second of his professional career. The first fighter to beat the Irishman was Kazakhstani Shavkat Rakhmonov, who defeated Garry by unanimous decision in December 2024. After that, the Irishman won against Carlos Prates and former champion Belal Muhammad, earning a title shot.
UFC 330 took place at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. In the co-main event, Mackenzie Dern also successfully defended her strawweight title, defeating Gillian Robertson by unanimous decision – 49:46, 49:46, 48:47.
