Volkswagen owners in south London have encountered unusual thefts. Criminals remove front emblems behind which the driver assistance system radar is hidden. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Autoblog.
Police reported about 70 affected cars on 29 streets over four days. One Volkswagen Tiguan owner said cameras captured two people on rented bicycles. They removed the emblem and fled within five seconds.
Some residents believe criminals pre-select cars using drones, but police have not confirmed this version yet. According to one owner, before the badge was stolen from a nearly new T-Roc, a neighbor indeed noticed a quadcopter near the house.
Therefore, after the badge is stolen, the radar may need to be replaced, installed, and subsequently calibrated, leading to expensive repairs. This design is found on certain versions and generations of Golf, Tiguan, Jetta, Passat, ID.4, and ID.5. Volkswagen has already abandoned such a solution in new models: now the radar is installed separately from the emblem.
