US right-wing blogger Laura Loomer dramatically changed her stance on Russia's war in Ukraine after visiting Kyiv and meeting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing The Guardian.
Loomer, who previously amplified Moscow's propaganda and called Ukraine "a country full of Nazi apologists," reversed her position after the trip. "Just experienced my first air raid in Ukraine. Sirens blaring. This is every day for every Ukrainian. I often said I don't care. Looking back, that wasn't very nice of me to say. We need to have moral clarity," Loomer wrote on X.
Loomer interviewed Zelenskyy, who said his relationship with Donald Trump had significantly improved. Zelenskyy described their brief conversation in the Vatican in April 2025 as a "historic moment." "We changed the relations during 15, 20 minutes," Zelenskyy added.
Loomer expressed support for US sanctions on Russia, arguing that "Russia is funding Iran and providing them with explosives to murder US soldiers." She also visited a McDonald's in Kyiv hit by Russian strikes and ate a cheeseburger in front of the damaged building.
Zelenskyy's office called Loomer's visit "important and necessary." "It takes courage to come to Ukraine and not be deterred by Russian propaganda or air raid sirens. Thank you, Laura," the office said.
Loomer also visited the Dormition Cathedral of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and accused Vladimir Putin of hypocrisy, saying, "I just don't think that you should be allowed to say that you're protecting Christianity if you're trying to drone strike Jesus Christ."
Ukraine's chief rabbi, Moshe Reuven Azman, met with Loomer and said, "I told her the truth about this terrible war – about the daily Russian shelling, the children and civilians killed, the destroyed cities and villages."
Loomer's reversal is seen as a sign of the MAGA movement breaking with Russian propaganda.
