The Zhylyoi District Court in Atyrau Region has delivered a verdict in the high-profile case of an explosion at the Niet autogas filling station in Kulsary, which resulted in the deaths of two people and injuries to 14 others. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Ak Zhaik.

The explosion at the Niet gas station claimed the lives of a married couple: 43-year-old Berkin Ibetov, who was inside a tank, and 40-year-old cashier Meiramgul Sarbasova. Their four children were left orphaned.

Additionally, 14 people were injured in the explosion, including four children. The fire engulfed three one-story buildings, the gas station, and a two-story building behind it. Rescuers cited a gas leak as the cause.

Months after the tragedy, the director of the gas station was detained and placed under house arrest. The Zhylyoi District Court established that the director of Niet LLP violated safety rules at an explosive facility, which negligently led to the deaths of two people. The case was considered under Part 3 of Article 281 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan.

The court sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months in prison and ordered him to pay compensation for moral damages to the children of the deceased couple — 10 million tenge each. The verdict has not yet entered into force and may be appealed.
