The Laboratory of Solar Astronomy reported that about 20 solar flares were recorded in one day, including the largest in two weeks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

Just three days ago, the average rate was 1–2 events per day. The flares are being recorded in so-called geo-effective solar regions, from which an impact on Earth is possible, but no direct threat has been posed yet.

Coronal hole and magnetic storms

"The main factor of space weather continues to be a large coronal hole currently observed on the star. In this regard, high probabilities of weak and moderate magnetic storms remain today. Geomagnetic indices are already elevated but are still below the threshold of magnetic storms. The number of flares is expected to continue increasing. Within a day or two, events of X-class level may occur," astronomers noted.

Nature of the flares

The surge in activity is currently considered local, associated with the random emergence of an isolated large group of sunspots (catalog number 4493). The global level of solar activity is currently assessed as low.

Forecast for July 23

According to astrophysicists' forecasts, early in the morning of July 23, the geomagnetic activity level will reach G1. This is the lowest level on a five-point scale, indicating weak magnetospheric oscillations.
