On June 20, 2026, on the Turkestan – Shieli section near Shornak station, the driver of passenger train No. 7/8 Almaty-2 – Saratov of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy company prevented a collision with a five-year-old child who was on the railway tracks. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the company, the child was in a dangerous area without adult supervision, despite the presence of fencing on the section.
The locomotive crew noticed the child and immediately applied emergency braking at a speed of about 70 km/h. Thanks to this, the train was stopped and a collision was avoided. The train was delayed by 4 minutes.
KTZ noted that the incident had no consequences, and the tragedy was averted thanks to the actions of the drivers.
The company urges parents not to leave children unattended near railways and to explain safety rules at such facilities.
