Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy issued a statement regarding the attack on two tankers loading oil at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium marine terminal. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
Today, July 19, during oil loading operations at the Caspian Pipeline Consortium marine terminal, the tankers "ASIA" and "NISSOS IOS" were attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles. These vessels were loading oil produced in Kazakhstan. International crew members were on board the tankers.
The attack caused fires on the tankers, but thanks to the prompt actions of the crews, the fires were extinguished in a short time. There were no casualties. Remote loading devices No. 1 and No. 3 were not damaged. No oil spill into the sea area occurred.
Currently, oil loading operations at the terminal have been temporarily suspended until the assessment of the incident's consequences is completed. Additional information on resuming oil shipments will be provided later.
The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan considers such attacks on critical civilian energy infrastructure facilities unacceptable. Any use of force against international energy infrastructure facilities threatens global energy security, disrupts the mechanisms of uninterrupted international trade in energy resources, and causes significant damage to the economic interests of project participants.
