A new attack on a civilian tanker by the Ukrainian armed forces has been carried out in the waters of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to CPC, a drone attack was carried out on the tanker NELSA, which was conducting loading operations at the No. 1 single point mooring (SPM). After a strike to the aft part of the starboard side, a fire broke out on the deck and in the tanker compartments. The fire was extinguished within a few hours by the tanker's loading crews and CPC rapid response teams on marine vessels.
22 members of the tanker's international crew (excluding the captain and chief mate) were evacuated. No oil spill or ignition in the tanks was recorded, the consortium said.
In a statement, the consortium said: "Despite the strong condemnation of the attacks by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan on July 19, on July 20, 2026, another attack was carried out on a civilian oil tanker at the CPC marine terminal... We expect from CPC member states condemnation of these attacks and the development of concrete measures to stop attacks on infrastructure used for exporting hydrocarbons produced by international consortia on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with strict observance of international law."
CPC is the largest route for transporting oil from the Caspian region to world markets and the main route for Kazakhstan. It provides more than 80% of the country's exports.
