On the front lines of the Ebola outbreak, healthcare workers are exposed not only to Ebola in health centers but also to rejection by their communities. There is no official tally of healthcare workers who have contracted or died from Ebola, but at the beginning of the outbreak, several healthcare workers were infected; four of them recovered, and at least one died. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Associated Press.
On June 19, 2026, in Bunia, Congo, a 6-month-old orphan girl named Vanisa Anifa, who died of Ebola, was buried. She was the third orphanage death in the outbreak. Catholic nuns from the orphanage where she stayed attended her funeral, along with relatives. Red Cross workers prepared her body for burial at the Bigo Cemetery. A Catholic priest also took part in the ceremony.
The Ebola outbreak continues in Congo, and healthcare workers face not only the risk of infection but also stigma from communities, complicating the fight against the disease.
