The Kokshetau City Court sentenced a 72-year-old resident of Makinsk to two years and four months in prison for the illegal acquisition, transportation and storage of tramadol in especially large amounts. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
According to the Akmola Region Police Department, in September 2025 the pensioner came to one of the pharmacies in Kokshetau with forged prescriptions. Using them, she purchased 30 packs of tramadol — a total of 300 tablets.
After the purchase, the woman transported the drug and stored it. Later, the pensioner was detained by officers of the drug crime counteraction unit.
"According to the summary table, the mass of the seized substance falls under the especially large category," the police said.
During the trial, the defendant claimed that she had purchased the tablets exclusively for personal use. However, the evidence gathered by the investigation confirmed her guilt in the illegal acquisition, transportation and storage of a psychotropic substance.
When imposing the sentence, the court took into account the nature and degree of public danger of the crime, as well as the woman's age. No mitigating or aggravating circumstances were established.
Initially, the pensioner was sentenced to three years and six months in prison. After an amnesty was applied, the term was reduced to two years and four months. The woman will serve her sentence in a medium-security facility.
Police recalled that since 2023, tramadol has been included in the list of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their analogues whose circulation in Kazakhstan is controlled by the state. Criminal liability is provided for the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation and sale of the drug.
