A 23-year-old woman from Kokshetau has been sentenced to 7 years in prison for illegally selling psychotropic drugs. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.

According to the police department of Akmola region, since autumn 2024, the woman had been selling medicines whose illegal circulation entails criminal liability. She purchased drugs in large quantities via internet resources and sold them to acquaintances.

Police noted that these are drugs that cause addiction and have a negative impact on human health. They can only be purchased in pharmacies and with a doctor's prescription.

During a search of her residence, police found and seized medicines, as well as correspondence with potential buyers discussing illegal sales.

During the trial, it was established that the defendant herself uses psychoactive substances and has mental and behavioral disorders. She also previously sold electronic cigarettes but later switched to selling medicines.

The court found the woman guilty and sentenced her to 7 years in prison. She will serve her sentence in a medium-security correctional facility. The court also imposed compulsory medical measures in the form of treatment.
