A 72-year-old woman in the Akmola Region has been sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in prison for illegal acquisition, transportation and storage of a psychotropic substance in especially large amounts. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the Akmola Region Police Department, the defendant is a 72-year-old resident of the city of Makinsk. In September 2025, the pensioner used fake prescriptions to buy 30 packs of tramadol from one of the pharmacies in Kokshetau. Each pack contained 10 pills — a total of 300 psychotropic pills.
"After purchasing the prohibited drug, the woman transported and stored it," police said.
The defendant claimed she bought the medicines for personal use. However, evidence collected during the pre-trial investigation confirmed her guilt in the illegal acquisition, transportation and storage of a psychotropic substance.
When passing the sentence, the court took into account the nature and degree of public danger of the crime, as well as the age of the defendant. Initially, the court sentenced the woman to 3 years and 6 months in prison. However, due to an amnesty, the term was reduced, and she was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in prison, to be served in a medium-security penal institution.
