In the Akmola region, a courier who took more than 10 million tenge from a resident was detained in Astana. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the regional police department, in Kokshetau a 59-year-old city resident was deceived by fraudsters and handed over more than 10 million tenge to a courier.
Complaint filed on September 11
On September 11, the Kokshetau city police department received a complaint about internet fraud. The woman said that unidentified individuals who introduced themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies persuaded her to hand over a large sum of money.
"Following the fraudsters' instructions, the victim collected more than 10 million tenge and handed the package to the courier who arrived," police said.
Only after the man disappeared with the money did the woman realize she had become a victim of fraud.
Suspect detained in Astana
Police immediately identified the suspected courier. During the initial operational search measures, it was established that the man lives in Astana, and officers immediately travelled to the capital.
"Police officers searched for the suspect for four hours and detained him. The funds belonging to the victim were found and seized from him. The courier had not managed to transfer the entire amount he received. He said he had received a telephone instruction to go to Kokshetau and pick up a package containing money," the Akmola region police department said.
Investigation ongoing
Necessary investigative and operational measures are currently being carried out. Police are establishing whether the detained man was involved in other similar crimes.
