North Korea announced the test of a new high-precision guided torpedo, the "Cham-2.0," which uses artificial intelligence for target detection and guidance. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.

This was reported by Yonhap, citing the Korean Central Telegraph Agency (KCNA).

Underwater test launch

The underwater test launch took place on October 15. According to the North Korean agency, it was conducted to verify technical improvements to the torpedo system.

"AI technology was applied for the target detection and guidance function of the new super-speed high-precision guided torpedo," the KCNA statement said, as cited by Yonhap.

More than 180 tests

As Reuters writes, citing KCNA, the test confirmed the effectiveness of the propulsion technology, which has been improved through more than 180 tests over the past five years, as well as the characteristics of the torpedo's rocket propulsion system.

Pyongyang called the test successful and stated that it marked a significant step in the development of the country's naval forces. The work was carried out as part of defense research to improve weapons.

Previous launches

Earlier, North Korea reported testing two types of submarine-based strategic cruise missiles. Those launches took place on October 14 and, according to the North Korean side, were aimed at verifying the combat capabilities of the fleet.
