North Korean armed forces launched an unidentified missile in an easterly direction toward the Sea of Japan, or East Sea, on Saturday, October 3, 2026. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The information was carried by the Yonhap news agency, citing the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces.
Technical specifications still being determined
Exact technical characteristics, including flight range and altitude, are currently being determined. According to Japan's Ministry of Defense, the launched object may be a ballistic missile, Kyodo news agency notes. Japanese sailors were warned against approaching the fallen debris of the projectile.
Amid ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula
The launch was recorded against the backdrop of continuing escalation on the Korean Peninsula. Just two weeks earlier, Pyongyang had already conducted similar tests of two short-range ballistic missiles in the same direction.
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that North Korea responded to US and allied exercises with two missile launches.
