Five officials of the Ministry of Defense have been detained in connection with the deaths of servicemen. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to a statement from Polisia.kz, "responsible officials of the senior and higher command staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan have been detained on suspicion of committing criminal offenses involving negligent attitude to service and violation of navigation rules that led to grave consequences."
Among those detained are:
- 01the first deputy commander-in-chief of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan — chief of staff;
- 02commanders of two military units;
- 03commander of a marine infantry company;
- 04commander of the "Kaisar" boat.
All of them have been recognized as suspects and placed in the temporary detention facility of the Aktau city police department. The investigation continues with the aim of detaining other persons involved in the case.
Recall that during exercises, due to a sharp sudden deterioration in weather, 17 servicemen were carried by a wave into the open sea. 14 of them died. The bodies of two servicemen missing in the Caspian Sea have been found.
