In the Tupkaragan district of the Mangystau region, on the coast of the Caspian Sea, the Ministry of Emergency Situations conducted a rescue operation. As a result of worsening weather conditions, an inflatable boat with people was swept away from the shore. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
The incident occurred last night. There were three people in the rubber boat. Strong gusty wind cut off their path to the shore and carried the vessel out to the open sea. Rescue units immediately set out to search for the missing citizens.
Employees of the department promptly found the swept-away boat and safely brought all passengers to land. The rescued did not need medical assistance. Specialists once again remind citizens of the need to observe safety rules on the water. When the wind intensifies, going out to sea is strictly prohibited.
On September 24, during exercises of the Naval Forces on the coast of the Caspian Sea, the weather worsened and the wind intensified. As a result, a group of servicemen was swept out to sea. According to updated data from the akimat of the Mangystau region, 17 people ended up in the water. 14 of them died. A government commission headed by Deputy Prime Minister Kanat Bozumbayev is working at the scene. He instructed to conduct search operations around the clock and provide necessary assistance to the families of the victims. The causes and circumstances of the incident are being established as part of a criminal case.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared September 25 a day of national mourning for the deceased servicemen.
