The tragedy involving servicemen on the Caspian Sea has become the object of information manipulation and fakes. This was reported by Qazaqyia.kz citing Kursiv Media.
This was stated by the Center for Combating Disinformation, which noted that police have already held several people accountable.
Archived videos and AI content
According to the Center for Combating Disinformation, archived videos unrelated to the tragedy in Mangistau continue to be published on social media. AI-generated content is also being created, and speculation exploiting the deaths of servicemen and the grief of their loved ones is being discussed.
The center emphasized that such actions constitute information manipulation.
Criminal liability
The Center for Combating Disinformation recalled that Article 274 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides for criminal liability for spreading knowingly false information.
The punishment under this article provides for up to three years of imprisonment, and in the event of grave consequences — up to five years.
Tokayev's posthumous awards
Earlier, Kursiv wrote that Tokayev posthumously awarded the servicemen who died in Mangistau, as well as the surviving sailors.
